During our visit to Gunning in NSW we were able to just relax, which is exactly what we wanted to do after the busy and hectic week preparing the car and trailer.
What is there to do in Gunning?
Being a really small town the best things are scattered throughout the district, best thing we found was that the local shops were interesting with an art gallery, antique shop and a couple of cafe’s . Of course there was a pub, what self respecting town does not have a pub, and we had a great meal there during our stay in Gunning.
As with any location the time that you stay will dictate what you are able to see and do. We stayed 2 nights but arrived very late the first night, and were lucky to get a camping spot.
The free camp has toilets, showers and free camping is allowed for two nights.
The camping is in Barbour Park, and there is a great playground, BBQ area, swimming pool and grassed areas so that you can sit and feed the ducks and water birds along the creek.
Gunning is also a RV friendly town, with a dump point.
As we were there for only the one day and did not feel the need to go exploring, we contained ourselves to a meal in the pub, coffee and cake at one of the cafe’s.
Surrounding towns include Yass, Canberra, Goulburn and Crookwell, all within 35 minutes of Gunning.
Local activities can be found on notice boards in the main street, on Facebook Community Care page.
Other Nearby Free Camping Locations
The region is full of interesting locations to visit and or camp including:
- Wee Jasper
- Wombeyan Caves
and more information can be found at the Upper Lachlan Shire website.
Free camping is also available in the showgrounds of Gunning, with showers (need to get a key), toilets and plenty of room to move!
The best part about Gunning is that it is nearly 300 kilometres from Sydney and is therefore a relatively easy drive to so in one day.
